“The Reminder”
Debut short film by writer and director Filipa Martins.
The score delves into the protagonist’s fractured perception of reality, shaped by severe memory loss, as she wanders through New York guided only by a stream of enigmatic digital reminders.
My Approach
To express the loneliness and lack of direction experienced by the main character as she drifts through the busy streets of New York, I centered the score around piano, supported by sparse strings and minimal synth textures.
A simple, evocative piano motif unfolds in rubato before gradually transforming into a more insistent, rhythmic presence as the tension builds.
As the cyclical nature of her experience emerges, the theme returns in a final, solitary gesture.
