André was my teacher for 2 years and during this time I was always looking forward to meet him on Wednesday, when I used to have my regular double bass lesson. André was very important to me, not only because of the great progress I did during this period, but also because he planted the seed of interest for Jazz, by showing me the works of great Jazz bassists and inviting me for Jazz concerts around town. I hope I have the opportunity to study with him again or eventually we can work together in the future!

André Carvalho

Portuguese jazz bassist and composer André Carvalho is an active NYC freelancer whose works AllAboutJAzz described as “both in bounds and out of this world.” Nate Chinen of The New York Times dubbed Carvalho a bassist “you should get to know.” He’s played with Jazz stars Chris Cheek, Will Vinson, and Tommy Crane. And André’s performance credits range from the Colors Jazz Festival (Paris), the Cairo Jazz Festival, and Jazz Festival Ljubliana, to venues such as Blue Note (New York), Konzerthaus Berlin, and Casa da Música (Porto).
