New review on Jazztrail.net

Deeply grateful to JazzTrail for hearing the emotions woven into Of Fragility and Impermanence.
This work is born from moments of fragility, of impermanence, and of quiet reflection — and it feels profoundly moving to see that resonance reflected back through attentive listening.

“Flawlessly arranged, “Of Fragility and Impermanence” is emotive and layered without becoming ponderous. The ensemble plays as a true collective, bringing Carvalho’s vision to life with honesty, musical depth, and imagination. It is an album to be discovered slowly, preferably in the quiet of the night.”

“Portuguese bassist and composer André Carvalho releases “Of Fragility and Impermanence”, a collection of 12 tracks that firmly situates itself on the left side of the jazz spectrum.”

“Metamorfoses” is now available!

At the end of 2024, my friend Tiago Fernandes invited me to compose the music for Metamorfoses. I said yes without hesitation, even though I knew nothing about the project. And I’m so glad I did! With text by Bárbara Rosa, direction by Tiago Fernandes, and choreography by Catarina Clode Casqueiro, Metamorfoses became one of the highlights of the year. The play dives deep into anxiety and irregular humanities, offering a thoughtful reflection on the vital topic of mental health.

Creating music for such a relevant theme was an incredible challenge. It was even more special to work with a fantastic team and contribute to Theater and Dance, two art forms I truly admire. I’m deeply grateful for this experience, for working with Tiago, and for meeting Bárbara, Catarina, and the entire cast and crew at Teatro Amélia Rey Colaço. Creativity, respect, and attention to detail defined the whole process.

The music I composed is now available on digital platforms. I hope you enjoy it. Listen here.
