“Ebb Tide”
Upcoming short film by multi-award-winning director Bruno Carnide. The score began to take shape during an artistic residency in Ovar, hosted by Shortcutz Ovar. Immersed in local folklore and traditions, I developed a set of unique instruments inspired by a traditional seashell instrument played by an elderly man, seeking to echo the film’s atmosphere of mystery and transformation.
“Ebb Tide” will premiere soon in 2026.
My Approach
After immersing myself in the local folklore and traditions of Ovar and the Ria de Aveiro, I met an elderly seaman who used to play a seashell instrument to call ships back to land. This instrument - producing only a single pitch - became the genesis of "Ebb Tide”’s score.
The entire soundtrack was built from virtual instruments derived from these recorded seashell sounds, shaping a sonic world that reflects the mystery, madness and obsession surrounding the main character.
