Gonçalo prazeres - “Atomic”

ATOMIC is the latest project by Gonçalo Prazeres, focused on collaboration between musicians and based on original compositions by the author, developed through improvisations and streams of consciousness. Each piece serves as a vehicle for the exploration of individual musical identities through improvisation and interaction.

The quartet — composed of Gonçalo Prazeres (saxophone and composition), João Carreiro (guitar), André Carvalho (double bass), and João Pereira (drums) — performs a repertoire that celebrates both the individuality of each member and the synergy that emerges from shared musical creation in the present moment.

With more than two decades of experience as a musician and composer across various musical and artistic fields — performing with Club Makumba, Dead Combo, Peste & Sida, Cais Sodré Funk Connection, among many others — this work aims to solidify Gonçalo Prazeres’ career in the field of jazz and improvised music. ATOMIC thus represents the expression and materialization of the artistic and creative development that has been cultivated by the author over the past two decades, combining diverse contemporary artistic concepts and influences regarding the way he interprets, observes, and performs improvised music and art in general.

The album was released in July 2025 by Robalo Records.
