My Approach

For “Canto”, I chose to primarily work with string instruments - violin, viola, cello and double bass - sometimes in a raw, acoustic and traditional manner, and at other times heavily processed and blended with electronics. As a period thriller, this palette helped ground the viewer within the film’s world. Given its themes of dementia, madness and depression, I focused on creating textural, dissonant and eerie atmospheres.

This approach led to the recording of three performers - Otto Pereira, Raquel Reis and myself - interwoven with synths, with sound capture and music mixing by Luís Candeias.
