Described by Phil Barnes in AllAboutJazz as an album with “gentle beauty that brings you back for repeat listens” with “high quality, subtly melodic, atmospheric compositions that usher you into their own discrete world”, Carvalho’s second album was supported by the GDA Foundation.

“Memória de Amiba”, entitled after a curious relationship between Amoeba and André’s own memory, features Jorge Reis (soprano and alto saxophone), Zé Maria (tenor saxophone), Bruno Santos (guitar), Jeffery Davis (vibraphone), Óscar Graça (piano), André Carvalho (double bass), João Rijo (drums), André Santos (guitar on "Aunt Beru) and Ricardo Toscano (alto saxophone on "Contemplações do Panteão").

Performed at Cairo Jazz Festival in Egypt, the music included in André’s sophomore album was also presented all over Portugal and Austria, including Hot Clube de Portugal, OutJazz, Jazz Cafe Bird, Freiraum Jenbach.

Released November 18, 2013 on Tope of a Pitch Records.

André Carvalho

Portuguese jazz bassist and composer André Carvalho is an active NYC freelancer whose works AllAboutJAzz described as “both in bounds and out of this world.” Nate Chinen of The New York Times dubbed Carvalho a bassist “you should get to know.” He’s played with Jazz stars Chris Cheek, Will Vinson, and Tommy Crane. And André’s performance credits range from the Colors Jazz Festival (Paris), the Cairo Jazz Festival, and Jazz Festival Ljubliana, to venues such as Blue Note (New York), Konzerthaus Berlin, and Casa da Música (Porto).
